My Story -Persephone (print edition)
2025
4.25 x 5.5, 32 pages plus 12 page booklet
The cover of this artist's book shows a very different Persephone from the one in Greek mythology. She has graffitied out parts of MYTH and HISTORY, so the title now reads MY STORY. She has tagged the column with her name, and tossed aside her empty spray paint can.
This re-imagining of the myth of Persephone takes her out of the roll of victim, instead focusing on her self-empowerment, personal strength, and choice. She tells us "Those are men's stories. I Chose to eat those seeds." While Persephone couldn't choose what happened to her, she does get to choose how to live going forward - with hope, strength, and autonomy.
The book features three pomegranate "reveal" pages that highlight significant moments in Persephone's journey, a two-page fold out on the final pages, and a booklet of the original Greek myth.
100% cotton paper, hand-cut pages. Digitally printed. Pamphlet stitch binding.
