I am Left in the Shape of You
solo exhibition, Art G
June 27 - July 21, 2024
Exhibition Statement
We are shaped by our relationships – in obvious ways and in unseen ways. When we choose partners, we learn to adjust here and there. Give a bit of space. Grow in ways
we hadn’t imagined. We develop our own private language, our in-jokes. Lean on and support each other.
Loss irrevocably changes us. When we lose our person, we also lose who we were.
This body of work is an exploration of the uncharted territory that follows such a loss. Inspiration is found in a variety of sources – mythology, the natural world, cultural mourning practices, lived experience, and terms such as “widow’s fog” – weaving together themes of grief and hope, memory and the unknown, brokenness and resilience. Porter Scholarship Residency
Art Gym Denver established the Porter Scholarship Residency in memory of Eric L. Porter. It is designed for artists who lack the financial means, workspace, and equipment to realize and further expand their art practice. The scholarship offers artists the opportunity to explore with the same joy and passion that Eric put into his artwork. More information.
