2018 - 2019 "Moonlight Insight" series
An object is bathed in moonlight - the resulting shadow reveals the deeper story. “These images came to me after several weeks of pondering various facets of Loss. Examining an issue by quiet, inquisitive moonlight (real and metaphorical) led to surprising insights about the truer nature of the issue.” "Facets" chalk & pencil on paper
Review the episode repeatedly from many, many angles. Assorted emotions flutter around - so many facets to every episode.
"Betrayal" chalk & pencil on paper
Reviewing a relationship, I see that one of the parties was not fully present or committed to the matter, leaving me agonized. "Broken Vase" chalk & pencil on paper
The beauty and joy of a vase of fresh flowers disappears when it is destroyed - leaving a profound sense of loss. "Guiding Star" chalk & pencil on paper
Navigating by the true and guiding star, but when the vessel's mast breaks and darkness looms, the abrupt stop is devastating.
2016 - 2018 "Family Trees" series "Acrobats" ink washes & pastel chalk on paper
What are the acrobatics required for the offspring traveling back and forth between divorced parents? One child prefers the custodial parent, another child prefers the weekend parent, and a third child seems lost in the shuffle. "Oversized Branch - Negative" ink washes & pastel chalk on paper
Perhaps one family member requires more energy than the others - how does this affect the other family members? "Oversized Branch - Positive" ink washes & pastel chalk on paper
A family member is highly successful - top of her field, or alpha dog in his arena - how do the other family members react? "Separate Paths" ink washes & pastel chalk on paper
Family members may pursue different paths - resulting in a collective decision to reach toward other families and disregard their own. "Divorce Aftermath" graphite, crayon & chalk on paper
A family (tree) has been torn in half after a divorce. Swirling winds and storm clouds illustrate the chaos that engulfs the remaining family. One child searches for the absent parent. Another child keeps an eye on the parent still at home, who struggles to stay upright and keep hold of the family.
